Rhetorical Skills in English

"There are three things that matter in a speech: Who says it, how he says it and what is said - and of the three, it is the latter that matters least." (John Morley, author) This seminar therefore focusses on the "how" and the "who". The aim is to win over the audience with a convincing presentation and with the help of rhetorical techniques.

Goal setting

The seminar starts with the joint analysis of a short presentation film on DVD, in which the techniques and stylistic devices used are worked out. The theory is followed by practice so that the participants can make optimum use of these for their own presentations: preparing and giving a short presentation in front of the group offers the opportunity to hone the rhetorical tools. Participants are then prepared for the "unprepared": They practise how to shine spontaneously and with their repertoire of rhetorical skills in a short presentation.
