Simplified Technical English is the internationally used language for documentation in the aviation industry. Originally conceived in the 1980s for maintenance procedures, Simplified Technical English has been slowly but steadily expanded in its application and can now also be used for descriptions of technical processes. The S-1000D specification, which is soon to be internationally valid, integrates the ASD-STE100 specification as a fundamental component. In the future, this controlled language will therefore also be used in the documentation of areas outside aviation and will certainly find favour in large parts of the industry both as a basis for technical documentation and as a basis for technical translations.

English is the language of international aviation and aircraft construction.
